I asked my son and daughter why they prefer pouches to bottles they started goofing off and told me it was because pouches are easier to juggle.  Then of course they had to demonstrate their juggling skills.

For the record they are terrible jugglers, but they found it hilarious to try!  After they stopped laughing they told me they like the pouches better because they are fun, squeezing them makes it easy to get the drink out, and they are easier to carry around in their backpack or purse.

We are having some decent weather lately, so my son and I decided to spend a sunny Fall morning hitting up garage sales and seeing if we could score a great find.

We saw some truly strange and bizarre items on our picking trip!  The finds ranged from an old record player to partridge statues to an entire silver tea service.
Picking Trip
The weirdest thing we saw was an antique horsehide blanket. The owner explained to us that it had been used in his family years ago for keeping warm on sleigh rides.  It even included horsehide gloves, and the mane was sewn on one end of the blanket. While learning the history behind this blanket was interesting, we couldn’t get past the ick factor of horsehide, so we passed this bargain up.

My best pick was pretty pewter pitcher for only $2.  I like pewter because I am too lazy to polish silver, and I just love the sleek lines of this pitcher.  When I got it home I researched it online, and discovered that it is a Dutch pitcher from Royal Holland, and is worth about $8.  So it was a good pick, and it will make a lovely vase for flowers.

My teenage son wasn’t really into housewares and vases, but he found plenty of things to explore. His favorite was this old wooden miter box complete with a saw.

We have a cheap plastic miter box, and he thought this one made of hard maple would work better. So he bought it for $3, along with the saw.  When we got home and researched it it found out the miter box dates back to the 1940s, and is worth about $10. My son considered the saw to be just kind of an extra, but his researched showed him it is a vintage 1950s saw, and is worth $25.  So his pick was very good!
