Birthday Parties

This is a big birthday time of the year for us, with my son, Robert, and my daughter, Eleanor having birthdays that are one day apart.  We used have the kids alternate, with each one having a party every other year.  But then we moved, and didn’t know many people, so it has been a few years since either one has had a party.  This year we decided to just let them both have parties, one right after the other.  So my daughter had a sleepover with some of her friends on a Friday night, followed by a party for my son on Saturday afternoon.  It made for a busy weekend, but it did get it all over with at once.

Thanks to the Mom Bloggers club I was chosen to be part of the Celebrate Express birthday party blog tour!  Birthday Express provided me with products to help celebrate my children’s birthdays.  There are so many amazing products on the website it was very hard to choose what to get.  Planning for two parties made it even more difficult, since we wanted to pick products that would appeal to both kids.  I love the fact that the website is organized around themes and lets you search by ages also.  We finally settled on a helium tank and Luau party pack.

We figured all the kids would love helium balloons, my daughter’s friends would enjoy the Luau theme, and it was gender neutral enough we wouldn’t have to change the decorations for my son’s friends.  I was pretty stressed leading up to the parties, because there was so much to do, so having to not worry about the decorations was wonderful.  The Luau pack included a palm tree centerpiece, a table cloth, placemats, cups, napkins, silverware, confetti, balloons and few other things.  I picked up some leis at a dollar store and we were all set.  It was great to have everything coordinated and ready to go.

We blew up lots of balloons with the helium tank.  As far as the kids were concerned using the tank to blow them up was as much fun as playing with them at the party.  You can see how many balloons we got out of the tank here.

Eleanor kept suggesting we take all the balloons outside and see if she could re-enact the movie UP, but Robert talked her out of it since he was afraid she would let go and lose the balloons.  I’ve never ordered birthday supplies online before; I’ve always put parties together myself.  I would definitely do it again, since it was so easy and let me concentrate on planning party activities instead of shopping.  We had two great birthday parties, and now I don’t have to think about kids birthday parties for at least six months.
