on the go 2This year it seems like my family is on the go constantly.  As the kids get older their activities get more complicated and longer.  Last weekend it was the weekend before Halloween, and this is what the kids had planned: ballet class, Boy Scout sleepover, movie with friends, Boy Scout pancake breakfast, church and Robotics club.  Friday night I realized that we still hadn’t gotten any pumpkins, so we needed to squeeze in a visit to the pumpkin patch somewhere in there!

on the go 1So on Sunday we set out for another busy day on the go.  The day started with a pancake breakfast sponsored by my son’s Boy Scout troop. This was delicious, and was a good way to fuel the day.  I made sure both kids ate a lot of blueberry pancakes, since I had already figured out that lunch was going to be tough to fit in today.  We left my son to work at the breakfast, and came back to pick him up a few hours later for our visit to the pumpkin patch.

My children still love to pick out pumpkins and so do I!  They spent plenty of time looking for one with just the right shape for their amazing carvings.  Now that they are older they do all the carving themselves, and I just wash and bake the pumpkin seeds while they carve.  Even though it was the day before Halloween we still had enough pumpkins to choose from.

We even made time for a quick stop in the corn maze.  This corn maze was pretty small, but it is still fun to walk around in it and get lost, or at least pretend to get lost!  We decided to pass on the hay ride though, because the wind picked up and the kids were getting cold.

Going to the pumpkin patch is different now than when the kids were little, but one thing that hasn’t changed is that I still make them pose for lots of pictures, and we still have a lot of fun.  So it is worth fitting it in to our hectic schedule!
