My kids love K’nex, because they are so fun to build and use. They are toys that provide challenging models to build and play with, and many times the models are motorized, like the Raptor’s Revenge Roller Coaster I received to review recently.
This kit is a challenging one, with over 600 parts including rods, connectors and track. When it is finished it sends a green coaster car hurtling through over 19 feet of track. My 15 year old son took on the challenge of putting this together, and he insisted on doing it all himself. The instruction book is very detailed, with over 43 pages of diagrams!
We cleared off the kitchen table, and he spent about 2 hours working on it, spread out over the day. The roller coaster car travels up to the top by conveyor belt, and then zooms down the track very fast. Many times it needs a little push to get over the last loop, although it has gone over the loop on its own a few times (but never when I’ve had a camera on). Check out our video!
My son has been spent another hour or so tinkering with the model, trying to get it run more consistently. He has been modifying the supports, and trying this like adding extra weight to the car – which failed miserably. He has learned quite a bit from trying different things and having them not work!
There are also instructions online at knex.com to build another roller coaster, Brink of Extinct. I am sure my son will be building this one soon!
I also received a Titanfall IMC Atlas Titan which we haven’t had time to put together yet. My son plays Titanfall on the XBox, and he says this is his favorite Titan and includes the best weapon. The Titanfall and other video game spin off models K’nex has are a great way to get kids who love video games into more imaginative play.
Thanks to K’nex one of my readers will win a Raptor’s Revenge coaster of their own! This would make a wonderful Christmas present for kids ages 9 and up. And adults love it too, everyone who has been over to my house in the past few days has seen the roller coaster, which is now on the dining room table, and wanted to make it go. Enter to win in the Rafflecopter form below.
Rules: Open to ages 18 and up, US only. Giveaway ends 11/17/14. Winner will have 24 hours to respond to my email and claim the prize.
