I have had seasonal allergies since I was a kid. It always is worst in the spring, and I can expect quite a few days of watery eyes and a running nose. It seems to vary year to year how bad it gets, but it never goes away. One thing I have always wondered is what exactly is triggering my reaction?
Like many people I don’t know what kicks off my allergies, and I just take allergy medication and hope it ends soon. So I was intrigued by the idea of reviewing a home test kit so I might finally get some answers! MyAllergyTest is the first and only at home allergy test, that allows you to find out if you allergic to any or all of the 10 most common allergens with only a finger prick.
The kit is pretty simple. It contains a vial for collecting blood, detailed instructions and some lancets for pricking your finger along with a postage paid mailing envelope for sending in your sample.
The sample is labeled with a Patient Identification Number, and you can find out your results in 7-10 days. I found it easy to use, and you only need to collect a little bit of blood for the test, which was quick and almost painless. I did have to prick two fingers to get enough blood, but it wasn’t bad at all. It comes complete with everything you will need, including a bandaid and cleaning swab.
After I finished collecting the blood I sealed it in the envelope and sent it on its way. The kit tests for the 10 most common allergens:
- Timothy Grass
- Bermuda Grass
- Mountain Cedar
- Short Ragweed
- Mold
- Egg White
- Milk
- Wheat
- Cat
- Dust Mites
Once the results are in you can access them online, through a secure website, or by mail. I’ve been using my allergies as an excuse to avoid mowing the grass for years, so hopefully the test results back me up!
The kit is available nationwide at Walmart, Walgreens, and Meijers, and can be found in the pharmacy department for a suggested retail price of $49.95. It is also covered under Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA), which is convenient.  For more information, visit www.myallergytest.net, and learn more about how it works.
I also have a test kit to giveaway to one of my readers. So if you or someone in your family suffers from allergies and wants answers enter in the Rafflecopter form below. Giveaway is open to US only, all entries are optional, do as many or as few as you like.
