Wordless Wednesday – Snow Camping in a Quinzee

My son is an avid Boy Scout, and last weekend the Scouts went camping in the snow. They built snow shelters, called quinzees, and slept inside them.

Basically the boys piled up a big mound of snow, let it sit for a few hours, and then dug out the inside for a shelter.  Here is how it looked on the inside.

It doesn’t look very comfortable to me!  I guess my son agreed, since he barely slept at all, but he enjoyed the experience anyway.  Would you sleep in a snow shelter?

  1. Oh wow!! I can only imagine sleeping in there – it probably wasn’t too cold but I bet it was uncomfortable. I am looking forward to building snow forts with my kiddos someday – not sure if we’ll sleep in them, though 😉
