Dodger’s Adoption Story
We adopted our dog Dodger 12 years ago, and he has been an important member of our family ever since. I still remember the day we brought him home from the shelter. My husband and kids had been wanting a dog for years, and I finally gave in and decided the time was right. We have always adopted our pets from shelters, and this would be no exception. I trusted my husband go without me, but he knew I wanted a nice small to medium size dog. So I was pretty surprised and not completely enthused when he came home with Dodger, who is anything but small!
Dodger, who was about a year old, had been brought to the shelter as a stray, and had been there for a month already. The shelter employees told my husband how smart he was and how he managed to unlock his pen and escape. My husband loved this story and knew that Dodger was the kind of active, intelligent dog that would fit right into our family, so he took the risk of annoying me and brought him home. He realized that Dodger would be a tough dog to find a home for, because of his size and how rambunctious and playful he was. Despite his size he was right our family and Dodger became an important member who grew up right along with the kids. In the picture above, taken right after we adopted Dodger, the kids are 6, 9 and 12. Now they are all adults and living on their own or away at school – but Dodger is still here with my husband and me in his Furever Home.
