When we bought this house three years ago there were many things we liked about the house – the fact it is a ranch, the acreage, the open floor plan and the huge kitchen. But one thing we never liked was the main bathroom. It has ugly pink fixtures, including the toilet, counters and shower insert. They are not the pretty pastel pink you see in 1950s houses either, they are a dark purplish pink that doesn’t seem to go with anything. But now I am going to repaint – and you get to pick the color!
When I was asked to repaint a room to test paint I knew this was the perfect room, because it needs lots of help. It is currently painted very pale blue, which does nothing for the room.
Before we went shopping for paint we checked out the Glidden paints online. We used their color palette to determine which color was closest to the bathroom fixture color, and decided the color was Rose Blusher. Then we played around with the online tools to see how different colors looked with the Rose Blusher. This helped us focus our plans, but we still made the final choices at the store.
- I headed to Walmart with my daughter, Eleanor and son, Robert. The plan was that each of us would pick a color, we would buy Glidden Paint Testers in each color, test them on the wall, and ask my blog readers to make the final choice. The Glidden Paint Testers are great, they are small jars of paint that sell for about $2.94, and best of all they are available in every color. They are right under the paint chips, you don’t even have to get them mixed. It is much easier to judge a color by painting it on the wall than taping up a paint chip. You can watch this slide show of our entire shopping trip on This Moment.
We came back with 3 very different colors, and painted them on the bathroom wall to test them out. The testers come with a brush in the lid, which is very handy. When you are doing three different colors, with two coats of paint for each color the brush in the lid saves a ton of clean up time. The brush did drip though – so old clothes and a drop cloth are still a good idea.
- Our three colors were Lime Sorbet, Clay Bisque and True Turquoise. I painted them next to the shower insert so you could see how the color looks with that, and with the light colored wooden cabinets. Leave a comment and let me know which of these three colors you think I should use. I will total up the votes next Sunday night and use which ever one gets the most votes! Only votes in the comments count (yes this includes family members, comment or your vote doesn’t count!)

I know what its like to renovate stuff. We closed on our home last oct. and we have been renovating it ever since. its a fun process. 🙂 For the colors I say go with the lime or the tourquise. 🙂 our kitchen and bedroom are both torquise. Im a bit partial tho those colors 🙂 We put in a new toilet and tub surrond in our bathroom not to bad to do.. my hubs and my dad did it in like 2 days.. best of luck
I am normally all about color, and my own bathroom is very similar to that turquoise, but I think considering the colors of the fixtures it would be better to blend than contrast. So, I would go with the Clay Bisque. The other two colors would make wonderful accents – you could bring them in with towels, matted pictures, rugs, etc.
I vote lime! 🙂
I love the Lime. Just jumps out at me!!
I love the turquoise!!!
I really like the lime sorbet. I could see it with a couple of different accent colors – brown or brick red or navy blue. I have never been to your website before – I like it.
I love the True Turquoise!
I vote for the lime sorbet. I think it gives you a lot of room for accent colors.
I really like the clay bisque. It is a nice neutral color and easy on the eyes;)
I vote for the Lime Sorbet! It’s a bright happy color. I love paint. Such an inexpensive way to update a room. 🙂
Turquoise!!!! 🙂
I love the turquoise for sure! Lime would be my second choice.
Good luck!
The green is a pretty color, but I think the clay bisque would be best with your bathroom.
The green is my favorite:)
I like true turquoise! But, I may be biased as we’re thinking of that color for our own bathroom makeover! 😉
Visiting from Social Fabric. I love the lime sorbet!
True Turquoise all the way! I want that color in MY bathroom!
I’d say true Turquoise
Of course you’d say that, you picked it in the first place!
Clay. Wouldn’t use blue since it’s not that different than what you already have.
I am liking the green for a bathroom. Enjoy it!
