This weekend we went to the annual Oz-Stravaganza held every June in Chittenango, NY, the birthplace of L. Frank Baum, who wrote the Wizard of Oz books. In addition to the standard rides, crafts and food they also have a fun parade.
They also have some of the lesser know characters from later Oz books. I am pretty sure the one in green is Ozma of Oz, and am not sure about the other two.
They used to have many actors from the movie show up for the festivities, but there aren’t too many who are still able to attend. This year they had one munchkin, the Flower Pot Munchkin.
L. Frank Baum wrote 14 books about Oz, not just the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and all of the books are in the public domain now, so you can down load them for free online for the Kindle or Nook or another e-reader. They are excellent fantasy stories for kids, so if all you have ever done is watch the movie, try the books!
That looks like a lot of fun!
