These Stained Glass Votive Candle Holders aren’t really stained glass, instead they are made by covering the candle holders in colored tissue paper. But they look like stained glass, especially with a candle flickering inside them!

These Faux Stained Glass Votive Candle Holders are the perfect Christmas present project! I bought the supplies for this 2 1/2 years ago, and then never found time to do the the project. I don’t know why we waited so long for this project, because it was very easy to do and not time consuming at all. We had fun experimenting with different colors of tissue paper, and making designs in a variety of colors.

Directions

The first step is to rip the tissue paper up into small pieces.  Three colors for each candle holder seemed about right to my kids and I.

Ripped up Tissue Paper

Then we used the Paper Mod Podge to cover the candle holder, and place tissue paper on it in a more or less random pattern, overlapping the pieces a little bit.

Let the Mod Podge dry for about half an hour.  Then go back and coat the entire candle holder with the Sparkle Mod Podge, making sure to stick down any little pieces that are sticking up.  The sparkles on the glass really make the candle holders festive and add a nice finishing touch.

  1. We made these last Christmas with the Sunday School kids and they loved making them and then trying them out. Fun, easy if a bit messy, but who cares. They looked great.

  5. I made one and love it! Just one question, though… I only bought the Mod Podge Sparkle, what would be the reason to use Mod Podge Paper first, then final coat with the sparkle? Or does it not matter? Very cute idea!
