Air fryer pizza is a quick and easy dinner. Make personal pizzas with customized toppings for a family pizza night. Learn how to make pizza in the air fryer starting with unbaked pizza dough or with a premade pizza crust!

I love pizza! It is something the entire family enjoys for lunch and dinner and it is quick and easy to make.
I’ve made pizza in the oven and I’ve make cast iron skillet pizza, but my new favorite way to make pizza is to make it my air fryer! Air Fryer pizza cooks fast, has a nice crispy crust with a soft interior.
The high heat of the air fryer makes the dough rise and cook quickly. It isn’t quite as good as a pizza oven, but it is pretty tasty.
The only disadvantage to air fryer pizza is that you can’t make one large pizza. But for individual personal pizzas it is perfect – plus everyone can enjoy their favorite toppings on their own pizza.

Why You Will Love Air Fryer Pizza
- An air fryer doesn’t heat up the kitchen making pizza.
- The pizza crust is crispy outside and chewy inside.
- The air fryer melts the cheese until it is deliciously gooey.
Key Ingredient – Pizza Dough
The only really important ingredient in this recipe is the pizza dough. I usually use a premade yeast dough from my local grocery store.
This kind of dough is relatively easy to handle and not expensive to buy. I regularly buy a 1 pound bag of pizza dough to keep on hand for quick, last minute pizza making.
But there are other options:
- Homemade dough – If you have a favorite homemade pizza dough recipe by all means use it.
- Refrigerated pizza dough in a tube – You can also buy premade pizza dough in a tube like biscuits. This dough also works fine in this recipe and some people find it easier to handle. It doesn’t rise as much as yeast based pizza dough.
- Premade pizza crust – An already baked shell like Boboli, flatbread, naan or a tortilla. Using a premade pizza crust makes the entire process even quicker and you can have dinner ready in just minutes. Specific directions for a air fryer pizza with premade crust are below.
For the pictures and directions that follow I used the yeast based pizza dough, but I also include instructions for premade crust in the recipe card.
How to Make Air Fryer Pizza
1. Roll Out the Dough
Take the 1 pound of pizza dough and divide it into 4 or 5 portions. That gives you 3-4 ounces of pizza dough per crust.
This makes pizzas that are generous for one person and fit easily into my 5.8 quart air fryer. If you have a smaller air fryer you can divide the dough even more and make smaller pizzas.
Roll the dough on a lightly floured cutting board until it is about 1/4 inch thick. Make sure that the whatever dough shape you end up with fits into your air fryer!
2. Parcook the Pizza Dough
It works best to partially cook the pizza dough before adding the toppings. So put the pizza dough in the air fryer and cook it at 370 degrees F for 6 minutes.
It is not necessary to add any oil to the basket, the pizza dough shouldn’t stick. If your air fryer basket isn’t flat you can use parchment paper under the dough if you prefer.
3. Add the Toppings
Once the pizza dough has cooked pull out the air fryer basket and use a spatula to flip the pizza dough over before adding the toppings. This helps the dough cook and brown more evenly.
It can be difficult to put the pizza in the air fryer without dumping the toppings, so keep it in the basket while you add sauce and toppings!
Spread about 3 tablespoons of sauce evenly on the pizza. Add peppers or onions or whatever toppings you prefer on top of the sauce.
Finish by sprinkling the cheese on the pizza. The cheese helps hold down lighter toppings that might get blown around by the air fryer fan.
Put the basket back in the air fryer and cook the pizza at 370 degrees F for another 5-6 minutes. Once it is done cooking use a spatula to take it out of the air fryer and let it rest for 5 minutes before cutting.
Holding Down Pizza Toppings
Sometimes the high powered fan of the air fryer can blow the toppings around. I find that this rarely occurs as long as I push the toppings into the sauce a little bit and cover them with cheese.
But very light things, such as fresh herbs, might still be an issue. If this is a problem with your air fryer you can wait and add the very light weight toppings after the pizza is cooked.
Another solution is to put lightweight toppings about 2 minutes before the pizza is done cooking. Once the cheese has started to melt fresh herbs will stick to it.

Air Fryer Pizza with Premade Crust
If you are making pizza with a premade pizza crust like naan bread or pita bread you can make the pizza by just adding pizza sauce and toppings to the premade crust and cooking the pizza for 5 minutes at 370 degrees F.
Or, to make the premade crust crispier, you can cook it, by itself, for 2 minutes at 370 degrees F before adding the toppings. If you are using something lightweight like a tortilla weigh it down with a knife so it doesn’t blow around the air fryer as it heats.
Tips
- Make sure you leave some room around the pizza dough so that the air can circulate. Don’t make the pizza so large that it goes up the sides of the air fryer.
- Add the toppings with the pizza shell inside the basket, but keep in mind the sides of the basket will be hot and can burn you.
- The thicker the pizza crust the longer it will take to cook. Mozzarella cheese will start to burn after about 6 minutes at 370 degrees F, so if you need to add extra time to cook a thick crust add the time before the toppings are put on the pizza.
How to Store
If you have leftover pizza put it in the refrigerator and use the air fryer to heat it back up later.
You can also bake the pizza shells ahead of time by shaping the dough and baking it in the air fryer at 370 degrees F for 10 minutes, flipping once. Then you can assemble the pizza later just like it was a store bought premade crust.
This is especially good when you want to make a bunch of personal pan pizzas fast for dinner. Once the shells are baked it only takes 5 minutes to finish making the pizza in the air fryer.
Pizza Variations
You can put all kinds of toppings on your air fryer pizza! I include instructions for basic cheese, vegetable and margherita pizza in the recipe card.

Instructions
Fresh Pizza Dough
- Divide the dough into four equal portions. Roll one portion out on a floured surface. Roll it to about 1/4 inch thickness and make sure whatever shape you end up will fit in the air fryer.1 pound pizza dough
- Add the dough to the air fryer. Cook it for 6 minutes at 370 degrees F.
- Once the time is up pull the basket out and flip the pizza crust over with a spatula. Then add the toppings, leaving the pizza crust in the air fryer. Remember the sides of the basket will be hot, be careful not to touch them as you top the pizza.
- Put 3 tablespoons of pizza sauce on the pizza. Add Italian seasoning or crushed red pepper if desired.12 Tablespoons pizza sauce, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or crushed red pepper, 1/4 cup bell peppers
- Put any other toppings like pepperoni, onions, mushrooms or olives on the pizza before adding the cheese. Finish the pizza with one fourth of the shredded or sliced cheese. The cheese will help hold down the other toppings.1 cup mozzarella cheese, 12 ounces fresh mozzarella, 1/4 cup onions, 1 cup mozzarella cheese
- Cook the pizza for 5 more minutes at 370 degrees F.
- Once it is finished remove it with a spatula and let it rest for 3-5 minutes before slicing and serving.
Premade Pizza Crust
- Preheat the air fryer at 370 degrees F for 2 minutes. If you want your pizza crust to be extra crispy put in the air fryer during the preheating process. If it is something light like a tortilla weight it down with a knife so it doesn’t fly around the air fryer.
- Put the premade crust, naan, flatbread or tortilla in the air fryer before adding the toppings. It will be easier than trying to transfer it with the toppings in place.
- Put 3 tablespoons of pizza sauce on the pizza. Add Italian seasoning or crushed red pepper if desired.
- Put any other toppings like pepperoni or olives on the pizza before adding the cheese. Finish the pizza with one fourth of the shredded or sliced cheese. The cheese will help hold down other, lighter, toppings.
- Cook the pizza for 5 minutes at 370 degrees F.
- Remove it with a spatula and let it rest for 3-5 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- If your air fryer basket is uneven you can put the pizza on top of parchment paper.
- The cooking time for fresh dough will be highly dependent on how thick it is. If you have thick dough cook it longer. If you use 2 ounces of dough per pizza reduce the cooking time to 8 minutes total.
- Make sure you leave room for the air to circulate around the pizza dough. The dough should not go all the way to the edges or up the sides of the basket.
